The Paradise Symphony Concert, May 2024
The Kid In All Of Us

From My Point of View

Sandy Miller

This past Sunday I had the great pleasure of attending the Paradise Symphony Orchestra Concert, For The Kid In All Of Us at the Paradise Performing Arts Center. It is so thrilling to see so many talented musicians (44 of them), under the direction of Dr. Lloyd Roby, on stage playing for an audience of over 200 people, from Seniors to young children. Tickets were only $15.00 and children are free for all of their concerts. This was a particularly special program because we were blessed with performances by 3 young musicians who received the Arlene Harms Young Artist Award. Usually there is only one chosen each year, but the talent was so great that they chose 3. One oboe player ( age 16) and 2 cellists (both 17). Our future looks bright in the world of music. Also another very special moment when the Orchestra was playing the William Tell Overture, some of the musicians came down to the audience level and invited the children (young and not so young) to come down and see the instruments up close and even touch them. This is called a Petting Zoo. I loved seeing the curiosity of the children. This is how you inspire a young mind. Give them something to strive towards. I think what is most remarkable is that the majority of the members of the
symphony are volunteers. Some have sponsors, and most of them live outside of
Paradise. Some travel quite a distance for rehearsals and performances. Their love
of music and desire to play with others far outweighs the other things. And we get
to watch them do it again and again. I feel privileged to be there and watch and
listen as the music fills the auditorium. We are so blessed to have a symphony that
got its start in 1958. That’s 66 years. I encourage you to check out their website,
paradisesymphony.org. Find out about this wonderful organization. Become a sponsor for a musician or a budding musician. Buy an ad to put in the program. Find out when their next concert is and take a friend or child and inspire others to do the same thing. I invite you to pay attention to what is going on in our town. Get involved, participate, volunteer, sponsor, show up. That’s how we rebuild and celebrate Paradise. We are blessed indeed!

Have a beautiful day friends.

Looking forward to hearing from you. (Comment form below.)
