Oroville’s Bolt Tool Museum Special Event
Allen Young
A few Saturday’s ago, I attended an interesting fund raising event at the museum. A professional antique appraiser would tell you what your priceless treasure would be worth in the real world for a $5.00 donation per item. I had bought a book in Portland Oregon in 1974. It was James Michener’s ‘Centennial’. I had kept it 50 years because it was a limited first edition of 500, boxed and signed by Michener. Mine was number 224. I bought it at Barnes and Noble’s rare book section for $25.00. (At the time, a large sum). The appraiser lady said I should have bought more as the current value was between $600 and $700. Not bad. I wonder now what other treasure is hiding in my home.
(Editor’s Note: If Allen had invested the $25 at 5% interest his return would have been $261.68. Allen certainly made a good investment.)
