Service Above Self
by Cali Bryant
I have demonstrated a clear understanding of “Service Above Self” and acted accordingly by constantly dedicating myself and my time to serving my community. Throughout my time in High School, I have participated in events such as Earth Day improvements where I helped build flower beds for Paradise Ridge Elementary School students and mulched trees, helped setup and manage community family festivals, done free tutoring for students of all ages, and many other contributions that have improved Paradise and Magalia. My involvement in the Earth Day project enabled me to help build a garden that will be there for many years to come and will allow the students to develop more skills. As a tutor, I dedicated my time after school to assist and guide students of all ages in their schoolwork. I was able to help students understand concepts and complete their work at no cost to them which was important to me because I learned that it can be difficult to get help from busy teachers or parents. Volunteer participation is crucial part of putting on community events and I believe my service has greatly benefited my community. Being awarded a scholarship would help me continue my service accomplishments while at college as I would not have such an intense financial burden. I hope to continue making a positive impact on my community while furthering my education!
