Service Above Self

by Cloe Foor

I am exemplary in the field of service above self because I volunteer a lot of my time and energy to my community In a small town like where I live, one Club can make a significant difference, no matter the size. Interact is one of those clubs. Although we don’t have a lot of members, over the years we have compiled a concentrated group of students who really care about our community some examples of volunteering opportunities we participated in are ushering at the Performing Arts Center, painting kayak containers at Paradise Lake, planting trees for a new park in town, serving in the crab feed and the bean feed, setting up events for kids at the Terry ash center, picking apples at Noble Orchards and any other opportunities that pops up in the area. We have also done things like putting together a basket for the silent auction to raise money for the Rotary Club and contributing to International projects that provide water to communities who need it. As the president of the club, I have participated in all of these events and helped plan several of them. Everything we do contributes in one way or another to rebuilding the community. In the last 3 years in Interact, we have donated thousands of dollars and have volunteered countless hours of our time. We continue to do all we can to help people in the area. Events we have participated in have brought joy to a lot of people, helped the environment, and played an important role in bringing people together. In college I know I want to continue to be a leader and step up for things I believe in. Interact has taught me that I am capable of being a leader and an active participant in my community. This scholarship will help me go to college in the fall and join service clubs there. I want to help others in any way I can.
