Chiara, a Rotary exchange student from France hosted by families in Chico, was given a unique opportunity during her stay: ballet classes at Northern California Ballet (NCB). Embracing this chance, Chiara joined NCB and soon became immersed in the vibrant world of dance. Not only did she partake in ballet classes, but she also had the distinctive experience of dancing alongside Clara’s friends, immersing herself in the enchanting tale unfolding on stage.

In a role that required both grace and precision, Chiara found herself taking on the persona of one of the fighting mice, a character that demanded agility and skill. As part of her training, NCB instructors guided her in mastering the use of a sabre, equipping her with the necessary tools to embody her role authentically.

Throughout her time at NCB, Chiara’s journey extended far beyond the confines of the studio. She not only discovered a newfound passion for ballet but also forged lasting friendships and unforgettable memories, enriching her cultural exchange experience in ways she never anticipated.

Here is what she had to say in her own words..

Nutcracker time is over and it is with a lot of pride but also a lot of nostalgia that I post this. It has been the best experience I had in my entire life and I will remember it forever! I made INCREDIBLE memories with the most wonderful, talented, caring and hilarious people that I’ve met.

I discovered my love for ballet just by admiring them offering pure art and practicing their common passion for dance. I was their biggest fan backstage. I want to thanks all of them for all the kindness and love they had towards me. Thank you for integrating me so well, thank you for all the support, motivation and advices, thank you for all the things you taught me! I love you so much, you’ll stay in my heart!

Fun fact, they knew my name before I met them – which was kind of disturbing at the beginning.

{Editor’s note: Chiara rhymns with tiara. A tiara is a jeweled head piece worn by female principle dancers. All of the dancers remembered Chiara’s name because of the rhyme.}
